2018 Update

Posted by Craig on April 9, 2018 at 5:15 AM

Welcome 2018

Its been awhile since i last did a blog and since the last blog alot has changed, For starters i no longer run HF at home or anywhere. Reason for this is purely i totally lost interest with HF in all directions. To much time and effort needed to make them contacts that you will never make in years, Also having such mass of antenna up and needing people around to help if it needed anything done was a pain so i decided it was time for it all to go.

Anyway with it all gone i made the decission to move over to being more active on the up and coming technologies of amateur radio, as i already had a few nodes for DMR,Dstar etc i decided i needed a Fusion, So i purchased a FTM100D for the shack and a nice new X510 that now sits about 35ft to the base of the X510 and as you cab guess i am back to getting out on 2m and 70cm like i use to years ago.

Also i have started to get into Network Radios, Some may say this is not radio but is it not? or is it just you feel becasue it doesnt transmit RF like a normal radio its not the same? SOrry to say but i feel it is Radio and anything bringing the radio community together no matter what is radio even if its using an app via ip and into a repeater.

Only a few weeks ago i was demostrating the use of a Network radio while i was on the Alabama link on my T320 device four others where on also one on Echolink, one on DMR, One on Dstar & One on Fusion. And all able to talk to each other cross network and cross mode.. Now tell me this is the way forward. Being able to talk crossmode to each other is amazing and its the future.

People will beable to sit on there arm chair or out and about without worrying about coverage and still make contact or hold that conversation while on the go.

Anyway thats the latest and if you here me on any of the Network radio channels on Zello or Team Speak etc please give me a shout.

2017 Update

Posted by Craig on March 18, 2017 at 10:10 AM

Its been awhile since the last update which was around the shack build & Mancave

Not agreat deal has changed still active on VHF/UHF and HF alot more active on Dstar and DMR with the new DVMega Bluestack.

The hex had a really good bashing in the widns not to long ago and needed some yearly repairs, So while down new coax was added and the lack of a colinear on roof of the house has now seen it move to the top of the Hex just a small X50N.

So not a great deal but still plenty of action being had in the M3HBI Shack even if it is mainly getting drunk :)

Winter Coming

Posted by Craig on October 27, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Well i havent been on here much as the summer always see's me doing alot more things like out on the Bike or family day outs.

WIth winter coming i am sure to be hitting the shack alot more and being on either HF or Dstar so keep a listen out.

Also its going to be a test to see if the shack will stay warm ish with the 80w heater or will i need to upgrade it.

The New Shack

Posted by Craig on June 26, 2015 at 5:00 PM

Well i have not been active much due to the Great weather and just purely enjoying myself out on the Bike and the New Electric Car...

Quite alot has changed since my last update with like i say myself and the Wife investing in the Future with a new Electric Renault Zoe, And i have to say for the 3 months of owning the car we have not looked back what a different world.

Anyway a major Shack reshape and a large task was took upon myself and some much awesome freinds 2E0DRN Darran - M6KKD Kev - MOTAV Vinny with the challenge of 2015 of the new shack / mancave.

The new place for the chack was to be the Garage at the bottom of the garden but being not heated etc we needed to plan well, SO we decided one day to goto the local DIY store and just buy random wood and bits and build it without plans (Has to be done this way planning never works)

So after a trip to the DIY shop and some moeny spent we headed home to start and we started at 11am that day.. Now here is where you will be impressed check these photos out..

Start clear floor.

Next Wood..

Then more wood.

Its Bacon and Egg breakie time.. Hey Kev (M6KKD)

Now this is about 9-10pm we have been going for 10 hrs at this and thought we should stop so Day two is just amazing..

And the finshed project just 24hrs on.. I am over the moon with the out come and with the new Wall bar heater and the fridge full of beer it is a shack to be proud off..

The finishing touch one Man Cave sign and a brand new state of the art GSM alarm system that calls/text/emails you when an issues arise.

DV MEGA Now Here!!

Posted by Craig on January 2, 2015 at 12:10 PM

Well what else could someone want for there collection of gadgets and Radio gear.. I sat thinking this one evening in December with G0JKJ and we came up with we don't own a Dstar Hotspot.. OOH Whats that i said... After an hour of googleing and looking and youtube and alot of chatting with Scott the next morning saw me purchase a DV MEGA from www.dvmega.co.uk i have to say service was fast and questioned answered.

So now in the M3HBI gadget and radio collection is the up and running Hotspot..

It don't stop there as these can be tethered to your phone and made portable then i also purchased a 5v 7800 mAh power pack which has made this 100% portable, Yeap Dstar everywhere now..

Posted by Craig on September 23, 2014 at 9:30 AM

Well i have purchased another handheld this time the ICOM ID-51E, For starters i had to trade in some old gear that i was not using to justify the cost of this handheld and i did at one pioint hum and aar about buying it.. But as usal i talked myself into buying it after looking at alot of reveiews on the internet and Youtube,

I have had the radio now for a week or more and i am so so so happy with it, It is one of those buys that you think how or why did i never have one before, Ok so the down side is no dstar repeaters near me but we have plenty of local people i talk to that are all Dstar so in my eyes having just friends with dstar makes this worth buying..

Battery life for alittle listening and transmiting is very good i have had it last aday or more.. yet people say on 4.5 hrs so i am lost on that part.

Anyway another item added to the list..

40FT - 12M - Mast has arrived

Posted by Craig on September 6, 2014 at 4:35 AM

Well what a wonderful bargain i have got.. I managed to pick up and 40ft - 12m Mast from a said online auction for a bargain price..

It has arrived and is in absolute perfect condition, this will be going up soon to replace the scaffold pole to make easy service on the HF antenna..

Photo's soon.

Still Here!!!

Well it's been a busy time since the last update.

I have not really had much time on the radio with holidays and the kids etc but when i have i have managed to work some good DX. Some great contacts into Japan and Indonesia which i have not had in my growing list, The Hex Beam had with stood some high winds and seems to be doing a great job hearing some great stations that alot of my friends can not hear.

Me and my friend Vinny M0TAV have been out and about fittiting antennas for friends and programming some radios for people which is always good to help people get stared, Our plan for the rest of the year and help new comers to get up and running without stressing about Antennas installs and setting up etc.

Apart from that all is well and going forward is always a good thing.

Keep well people and say hello if you hear me on the radio.

New Shed

Posted by Craig on May 25, 2014 at 6:20 AM

Well another busy week for me.. Work has been none stop and in between that i ordered a new shed.. Might sound boring which i would agree but the wifey thinks the new shed is for me to move into with the radio gear... Eeeerrr i don't think so dear... Why would i move from a lovely warm room in the house to a cold damp shed...

This a resulted in me building the shed whilst she was at work and myself filling it with junk as quick as i can hahahaha..

Why Why Why!

Posted by Craig on May 1, 2014 at 2:10 PM

Well it happened again the Goons of Amateur Radio can't help but stick there nose in..

As i was talking today to a good friend M6CIF on my way to work about progressing through the licenses of Amateur Radio here in the UK, And my view is one of my own and we are allowed views as it's a free country, But the Goon G1KDU pipes his nose in with his stupid tone and comments calling me a "PRICK" yes he called me a Prick.. But he didn't come in like a real amateur and break in he just shouted abuse and his silly little comments calling me a nobody and a Prick.. DId i say he called me a prick..

Anyway did i mention he did not at anytime give his call sign when he was abusing our conversation.. But what he did do was carry on calling me names like a baby and saying i am all mouth and offering me to knock his door.. HAHAHAHA...

I would never knock his door because this would give him his moment to call the police and i would be the bad person.

I have to admit by this time i did lower myself and decided i would fire back some offensive words to him which to be honest he provoked me into and i think this is what he wanted as the comment of "you lost the argument now for swearing" is all that he could say..

G1KDU - Andre you are a waste of space all ways will be and people like you need to stop your moaning. We use the radio for what it is Communication and Fun... Having fun in the hobby not taking things serious when things like murder, sex offending, and more are happening in the world. Get a life.. EEERRRR "PRICK"
